Integrity - no joke.
Lawyers have become a favorite target of jokes and the reputation of lawyers generally has been tarnished due to a few unscrupulous lawyers.  However, it is no joke when you find yourself in need of legal representation. When seeking legal counsel, clients need assurance that they are dealing with a lawyer who has integrity.  Clients need an attorney they can trust.

All licensed attorneys in Michigan must comply with the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct. Additionally, all Michigan Lawyers must take a lawyer’s oath before being admitted to practice law. However, Paul J. Raine, PLLC goes above and beyond the requirements imposed by the State Bar of Michigan.

What makes us different?

Paul J. Raine, PLLC adheres to a self-imposed law firm Code of Ethics.  Although a Code of Ethics is not required* for a Michigan law firm, Mr. Raine prefers to be a leader in this area rather than wait for a requirement to be imposed. Furthermore, Mr. Raine has taught courses in Ethics at Walsh College in Troy, Michigan for the past eight years. You can rest assured that a case handled by Paul J. Raine, PLLC will be handled with the utmost ethical integrity.

*Due to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, a published Code of Ethics is now required for publicly traded companies.  The 2002 law was drafted in response to the ethical lapses of the leaders of companies such as Enron, Tyco, Adelphia, WorldCom and others. However, a published Code of Ethics is still a rare find in privately held companies and law firms where written Codes of Ethics are not required.

"A Lawyer Helps"

Paul J. Raine, PLLC is proud to dedicate resources in support of the Michigan State Bar "A Lawyer Helps" program.  The firm has a self-imposed requirement to exceed the State Bar of Michigan Voluntary Pro Bono Standard, which contemplates free or reduced fee legal services for low-income individuals and groups. The Pro Bono Standard, promulgated by the State Bar of Michigan suggests on an annual basis:

  • 3 cases. -or-
  • 30 hours of free legal help for
    low-income persons. -or-
  • A $300 donation for a nonprofit legal aid program.

Paul J. Raine, PLLC is committed to meet or exceed all three components of the Michigan Pro Bono Standard.

"Lawyers make a difference for people and society. They solve legal problems, provide free legal help to the poor, and give time to many other community efforts."
